Machakos County borders Nairobi and Kiambu counties to the West, Embu to the North, Kitui to the East, Makueni to the South, Kajiado to the South West and Murang’a and Kirinyaga to the North West. The County covers a total area of 6208.2 km². Administratively,  the county is sub-divided into eight sub-counties with a total of 40 electoral wards. According to the 2019 population census, Machakos county has a population of 1, 414, 202.
